Granville Island is a breathtaking oasis in the heart of Vancouver.
It locates on the south shore under the Granville Street Bridge.
Granville Island is a unique environment. The summer months are quite mild and sunny, the afternoon winds off English Bay ensure the temperature rarely rises
above 25° C. But there is one climactic trait the Island shares with all of
coastal British Columbia: it rains a lot. May through October is normally dry,
but there are days in the winter months when the precipitation is high. Adapted
to the rainy season, Granville Island incorporates generous awnings and covered
walkways into its visitor areas, but it's good to be prepared for some dampness.
Granville Island is easy to get to because it's in the middle of the city.
Whether by boat, by car, by bus, by bicycle or on foot, you have many choices.
For example, the #50 False Creek bus comes from Gastown in the downtown area,
along Granville St. to get to Granville Island. When you visit to there, you'll
notice that all of the streets on the Island are now one-way.
In 2004 Granville Island was named the “Best Neighborhood in North America” by Project for Public Spaces, a New York-based nonprofit agency. More than 10 million visits to the Island are recorded annually.
